Despite the convenience brought about by the advancement of technology and increment of social media platforms, there have been numerous challenges brought about by the same.
National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Director General Francis Meja has blamed WhatsApp Groups for the increased road accidents.
Mr Meja noted that individuals use the platforms to warn one another against using routes where NTSA officers have mounted roadblocks for inspections.
“These groups endanger the lives of the drivers and the passengers, they are conveniently used to escape the dragnet of the officers,” Meja was quoted by a local daily.
The NTSA boss further expressed that their efforts to nab drunk drivers were being hindered by social media.
“Let drivers caught on the wrong side of the law face consequences, it’s only through this that we can make significant progress in reducing road carnage in the country,” he stated.
Motorists have also been using several twitter accounts to monitor traffic on the roads and cautioning colleagues to avoid various checkpoints.
