Five family members on Saturday perished in a tragic road accident that occurred along Tawa-Masii road in Ngele, Makueni County.
The victims were among family and friends travelling back to Mwala after attending a dowry payment ceremony in Kiteta, Mbooni sub-county.
The driver of the bus belonging to AIC Kathithyamaa church, reportedly lost control while negotiating a corner around a notorious black spot 2KM from Tawa market.
Four women and a 7-year-old boy were among the fatalities of the accident that occurred shortly after 7:00pm Saturday.
Those who sustained serious injuries were rushed to Makueni Level 5 and Mbooni Level 5 hospitals while those with minor injuries were treated at nearby dispensaries and discharged.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Tawa Hospital mortuary.
Confirming the incident, Mbooni OCPD James Baraza said preliminary investigations showed the bus was speeding.
“Our team has visited the accident scene and initial investigation reveals that the bus was on the road at night on an unfamiliar road, had excess passengers and was speeding at the time of the accident,” he stated.
