A teenage grandson of the late Wambui Otieno allegedly raped a four-year-old girl at Muiri estate behind Bomas of Kenya. The 15-year-old (name withheld) was consequently arrested and spent the night at Hardy Police Station before being taken to the Children’s Court in Milimani. The boy is the son of Gladwell Otieno who is Wambui’s daughter, who is a civil rights activist and former director of Transparency International, Kenya Chapter.
She is also the founding executive director of the Africa Centre for Open Governance (AfriCOG). Her son is alleged to have committed the offence on August 18 at a hay barrack for horses near an international school, off Mukinduri Road. The victim’s mum, Rachel Nafula, claims she bumped into the suspect moments after he had committed the act. He was riding a mountain bike heading home, about a kilometre away from the crime scene, which police visited.
