Airtel Wants Safaricom dominance checked

The Airtel and Safaricom war is not over yet, and will not be for a long time. Safaricom, which is the biggest mobile company in the region in terms of revenue and subscribers is currently controlling 67.4 percent of Kenya's Telcom market, while Airtel hangs on with 22.6 percent, the rent being controlled by Orange.

Airtel now wants a few things implemented to promote fair competition among the players in the industry.

Speaking during a press briefing, Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Yousseffi  said“The dominant player has a successful mobile money service, and have proven that it works. They should then open it up for other players,”

Among the things Airtel wants implemented include the Mpesa platform being open to other players and price control for the dominant player.
